“He’s gonna make some really big scores” – Marnus Labuschagne backs Steve Smith to perform well Ashes Tests

Steve Smith is going through a rough phase in Test cricket. But, Marnus Labuschagne has opined that the star batsman will register some good scores going ahead in the Ashes. Steve Smith has amassed only 111 runs in the first couple of games with a best of 93 runs in the pink-ball game.

Steve Smith is reckoned as one of the best batsmen across the globe in red-ball cricket. He is currently in 3rd position in the latest ICC Test ranking with 886 ratings. So far, he has mustered 7651 runs in just 79 games at an average of 61.2. But, he is not going through a good form in the ongoing Ashes vs England. Although, he has got one 90 plus score under his belt. But, Australia expects a lot more from a batsman of Steve Smith’s caliber.

Marnus Labuschagne, the batsman in form feels that his teammate will soon return to his best. He asserted that Steve Smith has not played regular Test cricket for more than a year. Although, Smith has shown some glimpse of his return into his best form and he is going to click some good scores going ahead. He looked optimistic and mentioned that it will be interesting to watch Steve Smith bat going ahead in the Ashes.

“He hasn’t played Test cricket for a year and it’s taken two innings, he batted beautifully in that innings in some very tricky conditions, it was nipping around, so I think it’s very exciting to see. I think it’s very exciting for the rest of the series because I think if he gets in, he’s gonna make some really big scores in the next three Tests,” Labuschagne was quoted as saying on Sporting News.

Meanwhile, Marnus looked sad on not converting his first Ashes ton into a big score and will be looking for one going ahead in the Test series.

“We played well in this Test match and didn’t take our foot off the paddle. Getting my first Ashes ton was terrific and I was disappointed that I didn’t make it a big one, in spite of being given a few chances,” he added.
