Shreyas Iyer becomes the highest-paid player in the very first set of marquee players in the ongoing IPL 2022 mega-auction on Day-1. He was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders at a whopping price of INR 12.75 Crores.
Shreyas Iyer missed the previous edition of the Indian Premier League due to an elbow injury. But, he is one of the most talented middle-order batsmen across the country. The right-handed batsman was earlier picked by DC at a price of INR 7 Crores. However, now in the upcoming edition, he will be spotted donning the jersey of Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR buys Shreyas Iyer at a whopping fee of INR 12.75 Crores
Shreyas Iyer is looked down on as one of the captaincy options by Kolkata Knight Riders team management. Iyer is a regular player of Team India and IPL. He has played 87 IPL games and scored 2375 runs with a best of 96 runs.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders also bought their star player Pat Cummins at a cut price of INR 7 Crores. Australian pacer Pat Cummins was earlier bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping INR 15.50 crore at the 2020 IPL auction.
KKR played a smart move not retaining the star Aussie cricketer and got him back by saving more than 8.50 Crores.
Shreyas Iyer is currently with Team India and gearing up for the T20I series against West Indies that is going to start from 16th Feb at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
