‘Should put it in cold storage till he gets to 80, 90 or 100’ – Sunil Gavaskar wants Rohit Sharma to restrict himself from playing a pull shot

Date:

Rohit Sharma’s trademark stroke “pull-shot” is very famous among cricket fans. He is known to play that stroke better than anyone else in international cricket. But, he had to pay price for the same on numerous occasions. And, former cricketing great Sunil Gavaskar feels that Indian skipper should not play that stroke until he is playing in the ’80s, ’90s & 100’s.

Rohit Sharma is one of the most destructive batsmen of modern-day cricket. He has done a great job across all the formats for the national side. But, recently, it has been spotted that he has paid a big price for playing his trademark shot on numerous occasions.

Rohit Sharma should restrict himself from playing pull shots, says Sunil Gavaskar

In the 1st innings, he got out on his favorite shot against Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara. He was looking good with the bat in the 1st Test. But, got out on his individual score of 29 runs.

Sunil Gavaskar was heard saying that Rohit Sharma should stop pulling the ball for a six. As per him, it is a productive stroke but it should not be used on most occasions.

“He has got to think about it. You can argue that it is a productive shot but that is not the only shot. He has got so many others. Now every bowler who has a little bit of pace will fancy his chances against him saying, ‘I don’t mind going for a couple of sixes or boundaries but there will be an opportunity because he hits the ball in the air,” he said while speaking to Star Sports.

“So he has got to work the percentages out. If he still thinks that the percentages are working in his favor, then go on playing but at the moment, they aren’t working in his favor. So maybe he should put it in cold storage till he gets to 80,90, 100,” Gavaskar added.
