Mumbai Indians suffered their record 8th consecutive defeat in the IPL 2022. They became the first side to have suffered as many defeats without registering a single win. Post-match, MI skipper Rohit Sharma said that in this tournament their batting unit has not done a good job.
Lucknow Super Giants gave a decent target to Mumbai Indians of 168 runs for a loss of 6 wickets in the match. Mumbai’s bowling was at their real best and restricted LSG to a score of below 170. It looked at a point where Mumbai Indians will easily snatch their first win of IPL 2022. But that was not the case due to MI’s batting unit failure.
Rohit Sharma upset with MI’s batting unit’s constant failure
Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma were the batsmen to have played in the ’30s and ’40s. Other than that Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Kieron Pollard failed to perform as per their reputation. Post-match, Rohit Sharma looked really upset with the performance of MI’s batsmen. As per him, the score was easily chasable and they needed only partnerships to make things possible. But, a few irresponsible shots in the match led them to the door of defeat.
“I thought we bowled pretty okay. It wasn’t easy. It was a good pitch to bat on. I thought that score should have been chased down, but we didn’t bat well enough. When you have a target like that, it is important to string partnerships. But some irresponsible shots in the middle, including mine. We didn’t get the momentum. They bowled really well,” the Mumbai Indians skipper said after the loss.
Rohit Sharma shed light on the fact that Mumbai Indian’s batting unit has let every cricket fan down. He added that the middle-order batters needed to play long innings. He feels one of the batsmen out of the lot will have to take the responsibility to bat as long as possible in the matches for the team.
“We haven’t batted well enough in this tournament. Whoever plays in the middle needs to take that responsibility and go on to play long innings. Some of the opposition players have done that and that is what is hurting us. One guy needs to ensure that he bats as long as possible,” Rohit said.
