The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 has concluded after a pretty-much mundane final between Maharashtra and Saurashtra. Sheldon Jackson was the cynosure of all eyes as he smashed 133* runs off 136 deliveries. He delivered during the high-octane final and made Saurashtra the champions of this prestigious tournament.
The in-form batter Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his glorious form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 as he smashed yet another ton. He scored 108 runs in the game and ended the tournament as the second-highest run-getter. With 660 runs, the Maharashtra batter had a stupendous average of 220.00.
Batting first, Maharashtra managed to post a modest total of 248 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Saurashtra bowler Chirag Jani bagged a hat-trick and conceded only 43 runs in his spell. Skipper Jaydev Unadkat too was fantastic with the ball as he conceded only 25 runs in his 10 overs and picked a wicket. Jani’s prey included Saurabh Nawale, Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Vicky Ostwal.
The run-chase was pretty much set by the openers of Saurashtra. While the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) discard wicket-keeper batter Jackson scored a century, Harvik Desai notched up a 50. Chirag Jani played a cameo of 30* (25) and guided Saurashtra to their Vijay Hazare Trophy championship.
Saurashtra had beaten Karnataka in the semi-finals and had sealed their spot in the finals. Skipper Jaydev Unadkat stole the limelight with his bowling prowess. The 31-year-old had picked up 4 wickets in the game and conceded runs at an economy-rate of 2.6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
This is Saurashtra’s 2nd Vijay Hazare Trophy victory. Their first victory came in 2007-08. Saurashtra had beaten Bengal in the finals that time. Narayan Jagadeesan of Tamil Nadu ended the tournament as the leading run-getter with 830 runs under his belt.
