In-form opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad, who contributed more than 600 runs to CSK’s IPL 2021 championship run, expressed excitement for the upcoming season of the IPL and predicted that the team will recover from a disappointing performance in 2022.
The four-time champions could only manage a ninth-place showing in their previous campaign. The 2022 IPL season for CSK was ruined by injuries, subpar play, and captaincy changes.
Midway through the season, MS Dhoni took over again as captain after having been replaced by Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of the year. He was unable to save the sinking ship, though, as the 2021 winners were eliminated before the playoffs even began.
After releasing eight players, the team is now looking to make some adjustments to its squad at the forthcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction.
CSK preparation for IPL 2023
Ruturaj Gaikwad noted that CSK will hold training camps once they have their final roster following the auction at an event hosted by Social, an urban hangout in Chennai:
“The Chennai Super Kings team is preparing for the 2023 IPL season. There would possibly be training camps after the player auction is held. In the 2022 season, the team was hit following injuries to key players. A T20 match is decided based on the performances of the players on the day.
“We will bounce back this season.”
Notable CSK players
Both veteran players Dwayne Bravo and Robin Uthappa have notably ended their IPL careers. The Men in Yellow, therefore, need options to both fill the gap and bolster their bench.
After four long years, the team is anticipated to return to the famed Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Despite hosting a few games during the 2021 season, CSK was forced to split their matches between Mumbai and Delhi because of COVID-19.
