Explained: Why Do Other Cricket Boards Pay Less Than The BCCI

Date:

One of the most popular sports in the world is still cricket. The gentlemen’s game has established its stature and renown among the hype of football, rugby, tennis, and badminton, garnering enormous popularity in the subcontinent and the nations that actively play cricket.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) oversees the game, while each cricket-playing nation’s squad is overseen by its own board. Data reveals that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to generate more revenue than any of its competitors, demonstrating once more that it is the unchallenged powerhouse of world cricket.

The salaries of BCCI players are significantly higher than those of players from other countries. The primary reason for the difference in salaries between BCCI and other cricket boards is the difference in revenue generated by these boards.

BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world, generating more than INR 3700 crore in revenue every year. This allows them to pay their players much higher salaries than other boards, which generate far less revenue.

Additionally, most other boards have a much smaller pool of talent to choose from, which in turn reduces the amount they can spend on salaries.

Now, if we compare this with the Indian cricketers. Not only did they have an additional category (A+), the players in the top grade get a salary of INR 7 crore per year (which includes only three players in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah) and the lowest salary bracket (1 crore) is even double than some other country players get in Grade A. Know the complete details on cricketers salaries all-around the world.

India’s BCCI is one of the richest sporting organizations in the world. Additionally, it is the cricket organization that gives players the most salaries. A+, A, B, and C are some of the numerous categories into which BCCI has split the players under contract.

In accordance with the category to which they belong, the salaries are also credited to them. Payscales assigned to each category:

  • Category A+ = 7 cr. Annually
  • Category A = 5 cr. Annually
  • Category B = 3 cr. Annually
  • Category C = 1 cr. Annually

The second-richest cricket governing body worldwide is the England Cricket Board. The extravagant compensation they give the players is another thing for which it is highly known. Based on the players’ seniority and past performance, the England Board has set certain basic fixed pay for them.

They present two different sorts of contracts to the athletes. They are contracts of the test, white ball, and increment types.

A player on a test contract may earn up to £650,000 annually. A player on a white ball deal has an annual salary cap of £300,000, whereas those on an increment-type contract get £200,000. A player with a test and white ball contract may earn up to £950,000 annually, according to the ECB.

According to each player’s signed contract, the PCB has set its standard pay. There are 22 players in all across the 2 divisions that PCB has declared. These are the categories: A, B, and C. Players in the A category are paid the most, which works up to roughly 11 lakh each month.

Players in the B group make roughly 7.5 lakhs per month, while those in the C category make about 5.5 lakhs per month.

Based on the contract, Australia pays the player a yearly wage. Either players with contracts or players without contracts fall into this category.

Major team members are categorized under category Y. According to the report, the retention payments for the players under category Y contracts will be $278,000. The captain will get a payment of $750,000, including perks.
