When Gujarat Titans made their debut in the Indian Premier League last season, there were concerns about their team composition. However, under Hardik Pandya’s leadership, the group went on to win the championship, defeating Rajasthan Royals in the championship game at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi International Stadium.
Ashish Nehra, the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, believes that the team’s approach won’t change as another season approaches. Ashish Nehra revealed on Friday that his team, the defending IPL winners, will aim to acquire a fast bowler in IPL 2023 auction, after releasing Lockie Ferguson. The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled to be held in Kochi on December 23.
GT released players ahead of IPL 2023 auction
Prior to the scheduled mini-auction, the Titans released six players, leaving four out of the country. Jason Roy, Dominic Drakes, Varun Aaron, and Gurkeerat Singh have all been released by the team. While right-arm fast bowler Lockie Ferguson from New Zealand and Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz were traded from Gujarat to Kolkata Knight Riders before the auction (KKR).
GT needs a fast bowler
“Even if you win, you still make a few changes as per needs. We might need a fast bowler. In a small auction, you make changes as per requirements. We are no different,” Nehra told reporters.
“We don’t have too many requirements as we haven’t released that many players. The domestic spot is also two or three left. It’s not that you will (always) get the player you want. There are nine more teams. So when that player comes into auction, that is also important,” he said.
Nobody is here to participate
“Every year you want to win as a team. Nobody is here to participate but to win. There will be one winner but the margin between win and loss is very little,” Nehra said.
“Gurbaz is a good player and he had gone to a different franchise. There are a lot of players who are international T20 captains, but don’t get picked in IPL,” Nehra said.
“We have played only one match final. If one lakh people support you, then it helps.
