Sanju Samson hasn’t been a regular member of the Indian cricket team, despite some solid performances over the past few months. Because of Samson’s continued exclusion from the squad, the Indian team management frequently receives criticism from fans for not giving him a chance. The Ireland Cricket Board reportedly made Samson an offer to join its team recently, according to reports that have surfaced.
According to reports, the Ireland board assured Samson that if he moved to the country to further his cricketing career, he would play in every game. Samson, however, declined the offer and said he would never consider playing for another nation at the international level since he wants to represent India.
If he had accepted the offer, the 28-year-old would have had to sever all ties to the BCCI and the Indian Premier League.
Opportunity to represent Ireland
The cricket president of Ireland offered Sanju Samson the chance to represent Ireland in international cricket and promised that Sanju will captain the squad and take part in all of its matches.
“We will let him play all the matches if he is in our national team. He is a very impressive batter and he is one of the rare talents. We provide him with an offer to play the matches from our national team. Our team required a skipper and batter like him.
If the Indian team is overlooking him then he can join us, we respect him and make him play every match,” said Ireland’s cricket president.
Sanju Samson’s reply to Ireland’s offer
Sanju said, “Thank you very much,” in response to the president of Ireland’s invitation. I can understand that sometimes we have to wait, and I am currently sitting here waiting for my selector’s call, but my dream is still to play for the Indian team, and I will never play for any other country.
“First of all, I want to thank Ireland’s cricket president for considering me for this role but I can’t accept his offer. I started my cricketing to play for the Indian national cricket team. I don’t want to play for any other nation or can’t even think to play for another nation. I can’t accept this offer and I want to say sorry to Ireland’s cricket president.” Said, Sanju Samson
“Although, I haven’t got plenty of chances in the Indian cricket team but I will work hard and have self believe and sometimes the combination of teams doesn’t allow your place in the playing XI but it doesn’t mean I am sad,” he added.
Consistently been ignored by management
Samson was left out of India’s roster for the T20 World Cup in 2022. He was also disregarded for the 2022 Asia Cup. Samson recently was not selected for the Indian team’s three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Although he was a member of the team for the ODI series against New Zealand, he was unable to participate in any of the games.
Throughout the three-match ODI series against South Africa, Samson appeared to be hitting well. He came close to giving India the advantage in the first ODI, which the Men in Blue just lost.
