It’s possible that MS Dhoni won’t wear the Chennai colours after the 2023 IPL. Additionally, the franchise will be prepared for post-Dhoni’s retirement, according to former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra. After Dhoni retires, he thinks they must be considering a replacement who can lead the Chennai team.
Aakash Chopra thinks the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won’t spend much of their auction money on finding a future CSK captain in the IPL 2023 auction. Chopra believes that CSK may begin searching for a future captain from their own set of retained players, as Dhoni has always believed in developing his players for the future. He gave Ruturaj Gaikwad, who leads Maharashtra in domestic cricket as an example.
Interesting To See If CSK During IPL 2023 Auction
Aakash Chopra discussed Chennai Super Kings’ auction technique while speaking on his YouTube channel. MS Dhoni will captain the team in the upcoming season, according to Chopra.
Chopra believes that Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad are two probable candidates to lead the team. It will be fascinating to watch, though, if CSK pursues any further captain possibilities during the auction.
“One thing Chennai has made clear is that MS Dhoni will lead them in the upcoming season. They aren’t looking at Jadeja as their future captain, as of now, but it can change. They have Ruturaj Gaikwad as a future captaincy option, but will they think about investing in him or go for someone else? It will be interesting to see.” Aakash Chopra said in his Youtube video.
Might go after Kane Williamson or Jason Holder
“There are some overseas options available for them in the auction pool. Kane Williamson can be one such option as his playing style suits their philosophy. They can also look at Jason Holder as he is an all-rounder and a phenomenal captain. Dhoni also likes these types of players who can contribute in all departments,” Aakash Chopra further said.
CSK in IPL 2023 auction
The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled for December 23 in Kochi, Kerala. Ahead of IPL 2023, six players were released while 18 players were kept on by CSK. In total, Chennai Super Kings has spent 74.55 crores and has 20.45 crores left over. During the IPL 2023 auction, the MS Dhoni-led team can purchase 7 additional players, of which 2 may be international players.
