It was a pretty action-less match at the jam-packed Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. While the sea of football-frenzied fans expected a crackerjack of a contest, the match was a very slow one and lacked action and entertainment. The only goal of the match was scored by Kerala Blasters FC and that orchestrated the victory for the home side.
The first chance in the game was created by Odisha FC in this Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 game. Raynier Fernandes took the ball to his chest after receiving a good pass and he fired it straight at the goal, but it hit the pole and fell in front of Nandhakumar. He failed to capitalize on this opportunity and Odisha FC failed to get their first goal.
Kerala Blasters FC is usually known for having fast-paced gameplay but that was lacking from their end in this particular match. In the 86th minute, Sandeep Singh of Kerala Blasters FC netted the goal for the home team as he was unmarked inside the box.
The footballing-loving crowd of Kochi went berserk as they created an electrifying atmosphere inside the stadium. The loud noise was reverberating inside the stadium and it was a special occasion for all the footballers playing for the home team in this game.
Kerala Blasters FC is unbeaten for 7 games
Kerala Blasters FC has really been a dominant side under Ivan Vukomanovic after their 3-match losing streak at the start of the season. They now have won 6 out of their last 7 matches in the ISL 2022-23 season and remain unbeaten in their last 7 games.
If they continue this form then they can challenge the likes of Mumbai City FC and Hyderabad FC for the elusive ISL title and also the ISL League Shield. The League Shield award is given to the team which tops the ISL points table after the group stage.
Kerala Blasters FC is now in the 3rd position in the ISL 2022-23 points table and is behind Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC. Odisha FC on the other hand is in the 6th position in the points table and really needs to pull up their socks in their remaining 9 matches in the league stage of ISL 2022-23.
Ivan Vukomanovic’s side will next be locking horns against Jamshedpur FC on 3rd January 2022. On the other hand, Josep Gombau’s Odisha FC will be hosting Mumbai City FC on 2nd January 2022.
