Delhi Capitals (DC) are one of the 3 original franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that have never won the title. Along with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), DC would be hoping to lay their hands on their maiden IPL title in the upcoming IPL 2023.

Even though their skipper and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will be out of action in IPL 2023 because of a fatal car accident, DC has plenty of backups- both in terms of captains and wicketkeepers.

Delhi Capitals historically haven’t been one of the top performers in IPL. They have qualified for the playoffs only 6 times and have been runners-up on only 1 occasion. The Ricky Ponting-coached side would be desperate to turn the table around this season.

With an eye on the elusive IPL title and the hunger to prove their mettle in the richest cricket league in the world, Delhi Capitals would be desperate to perform well.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Delhi Capitals might qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023:

1. Delhi Capitals have plenty of backup options

Even though their regular skipper Rishabh Pant will be out of action in IPL 2023, Delhi can rely on the likes of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Manish Pandey to take up the role of captaincy. All these players have experience in captaincy and would be willing to take up the role.

For the wicketkeeping role, the likes of KS Bharat and Sarfaraz Khan will be stepping up to replace Rishabh Pant.

2. Strong bowling line-up

One of the key strengths of the Delhi Capitals franchise is their lethal bowling line-up. The pacers in the form of Anrich Nortje, Mustafizur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed, and Chetan Sakariya bring a lot of firepower to the side and have the potential to scythe through the opposition line-ups.

In the spin bowling department, the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav would be key.

3. Strong top-order

Imagine a top-order in the form of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Manish Pandey. There is class, experience, and skill in these 3 players. Another major area that Delhi Capitals would label as their strength is their top-order batting.

The middle order to boasts of the likes of Axar Patel, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Mitchell Marsh. Delhi Capitals are most certainly a force to reckon with in IPL 2023 and would be eager to cement their position as the new winner of IPL.
