IPL 2023: Big Blow To Mumbai Indians, Jasprit Bumrah Is Unlikely To Play This Season

Date:

Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians (MI), and the Indian cricket team have been dealt a huge blow with the news that the fast bowler is doubtful for the entire Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) season beginning on March 31 and the World Test Championship final in June, where India is likely to make it.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Bumrah’s back injury is worse than it first appeared, and despite his best efforts to return to the pitch, it appears he won’t be back anytime soon for his team or the nation.

Bumrah last appeared for India in September during a home T20I series against Australia. He was making a comeback after missing the Asia Cup due to a back issue that kept him out for a few months. He was hurried for the T20Is in an effort to participate in the T20 World Cup in Australia; as a result, his injury worsened, and it has been five months since he last played in a competitive game.

Bumrah was expected to participate in the ODIs against Sri Lanka in January but was forced to withdraw due to back stiffness. He was also anticipated to play in either the ODIs against Australia or the final two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. However, his name was absent from the roster once more, and the BCCI had not provided an official update.

Bumrah is not feeling comfortable after bowling

According to the report, Bumrah is not feeling at ease after recently bowling at the National Cricket Academy, where he has spent a significant amount of time for his recovery. He now considers a lengthy break from professional cricket.

According to the same report, the NCA does not intend to push the player into action. Before the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, the BCCI and NCA are also planning on Bumrah’s return to international cricket.

Bumrah to miss IPL and WTC Final?

If the current problem persists, it is unlikely that MI top bowler Jasprit Bumrah will participate in IPL 2023.

Bumrah’s absence from the IPL would be a significant loss for the Mumbai Indians, who placed last in the IPL in 2022. Jofra Archer, another top pacer, will be back for MI’s camp, giving them a boost after missing the entire previous season due to injury.

The Indian squad is vying to play in the World Test Championship 2021–23 (WTC) championship match, which will start on June 7 at The Oval. Recently, India has performed well in red-ball cricket without Bumrah, but his comeback would have only increased India’s chances of winning the WTC final.
