Lucknow Super Giants confirmed on Friday, May 5 that Karun Nair would be stepping in to replace KL Rahul for the rest of the IPL 2023 season. This is due to Rahul’s unfortunate thigh injury which will require surgery and leave him out of action for a considerable amount of time.
Karun Nair, who shockingly went unsold at the IPL 2023 auction, will be joining the team before their upcoming match against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans on Sunday in Ahmedabad. Nair has already played 76 IPL games and has accumulated an impressive 1496 runs to his name.
Previously, Karun Nair played for Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2022 but had a poor run of form, only managing to score 37 runs in the past 4 years after missing the 2021 season. However, the Lucknow Super Giants are hopeful that Nair’s expertise and skills will benefit the entire squad.
Krunal Pandya led the Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday against Chennai Super Kings in KL Rahul’s absence. Despite the fact that the game was called off, Rahul was definitely missed.
KL Rahul to Miss IPL 2023 and WTC Final
KL Rahul stated on social media on Friday that he would be unable to take part in the remainder of the IPL 2023 season as well as the World Test Championships championship match, despite being present in the dugout.
KL Rahul expressed his disappointment at missing the WTC final, which will take place in London commencing on June 7 and feature Australia, in an emotional post on social media.
“After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it’s been concluded that I’ll be undergoing a surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It’s a tough call to make, but I know it’s the right one to ensure a full recovery,” KL Rahul said.
“As the team captain, it pains me deeply not to be able to be there during this crucial period. But, I’m confident that the boys will rise to the occasion and give their best performance as always. I’ll be cheering for them from the sidelines with all of you, watching every game. lucknowsupergiants
“Absolutely gutted that I won’t be at the Oval next month with Team India. I’ll do everything I can to get back in blue and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority.”
LSG has 11 points after 10 games, placing them second in the IPL 2023 points standings. On Sunday, they will play GT in Ahmedabad.
