League Of Legends: LCS Players Stage Walkout In Protest

Date:

This weekend marks the beginning of the LCS Summer 2023 split, and the LCS Players Association (NALCSPA) has declared that they would boycott it in opposition to recent changes made to the NA Challengers competition.

The period leading up to the LCS Summer split in 2023 has been turbulent for North America.

The fates of many players are uncertain as a result of Riot Games‘ announcement on May 12 that it was caving in to clubs’ demands and letting them choose not to field NA Challengers League lineups.

As a consequence, seven of the ten LCS teams have announced that they would be abandoning their academy rosters.

LCS Players Association Walkout

The LCS Players Association voted to walkout due to the changes little over a week before the Summer split. The player union has officially declared that the vote “overwhelmingly passed.”

All ten LCS teams have representation on the Players Association. Therefore it is possible that a sizable portion of each team’s squad will participate in the now-official walkout.

However, several of the rosters for the Summer Split have not been properly revealed.

In the week preceding up to this historic decision, all LCS players engaged in many conversations and disagreements.

The importance and urgency of the problems at hand are shown by working together to set competition aside.

The organisation adds that if Riot Games is open to discussing options for the LCS and NACL, the walkout may still be avoided.

Although the Summer Split was scheduled to begin on June 1, the walkout may have delayed that start date as the competition cannot continue without its participants.

The walkout follows CLG closing its doors and awarding NRG Esports their LCS place.

The illustrious LCS organisation, TSM, announced their intention to quit the league and move to another Major region.
