Earthquakes have been jolting various parts of India for the last few days. Himachal Pradesh, Assam and Uttarakhand are a few states that have received heavy blows from the forces of the nature in recent times. The earthquakes have now also affected teams participating in the ongoing Durand Cup 2023.
The Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Assam is presently hosting several group-stage games of the Durand Cup 2023. Chennaiyin FC and FC Goa are in Guwahati playing their matches and their hotels have been at the receiving end of the earthquakes.
As per reports, the epicentre of this earthquake was in Kanaighat, Bangladesh. But it stretched out to India and Guwahati witnessed tremors and shakes.
Even though the hotel where the two teams were staying in experienced the earthquakes, the players, coaching staff and other guests have been reported to be safe as reported by Sportskeeda.
The earthquake’s magnitude was 5.3 and some of the affected countries were India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and Bhutan. Notably, it had happened in the evening, at around 8:19 PM (IST) on Monday.
Both FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC are at the top of their groups
Both the two Indian Super League (ISL) teams find themselves in a comfortable position in the ongoing Durand Cup 2023. While FC Goa are presently with 1 win and 1 draw in Group D, Chennaiyin FC have won both their opening games in Group E.
They would be pretty confident ahead of their remaining fixtures in the Durand Cup 2023 as the knockout stages close in.
Chennaiyin FC defeated Hyderabad FC 3-1 and then backed it up with a dominating 3-0 win versus Nepal Army FT.
FC Goa on the other hand, steamrolled past Shillong Lajong FC 6-0 in their first game of Durand Cup 2023. The Gaurs were then held to a 2-2 draw against NorthEast United FC in their last game.
Noah Sadaoui has been in red-hot and blistering form in this tournament and is the leading goal-scorer. Notably, the Moroccoan has netted 4 goals so far and seems to be hungry to score more goals.
FC Goa play next on 16th August 2023; Chennaiyin FC lock horns with Delhi FC
While the Gaurs play their next Durand Cup 2023 game against Downtown Heroes on 16th August 2023, Chennaiyin FC cross swords with Delhi FC on 18th August 2023.
Both the teams would be hoping to play a glittering brand of football and have consummate finishes to their build-ups.
