Microsoft Enters Bidding Race To Unlock Call Of Duty Deal

Date:

The next development in what would be the largest transaction of its type in the gaming business is Microsoft’s fresh offer to acquire Activision Blizzard, the company that makes the Call of Duty video game.

Regulators in the UK rejected the initial $69 billion (£59 billion) agreement.

The latest offer, according to Microsoft President Brad Smith, is “substantially different” and ought to be accepted.

The UK CMA, which will assess the transaction, said the following: “This is not a green light.”

If accepted, the offer would put an end to a turbulent 18 months for Microsoft.

Microsoft’s offer

The planned merger has divided authorities worldwide when it was first disclosed that it intended to acquire Activision Blizzard in January of last year.

Some are concerned that it would limit the options available to players.

Microsoft’s amended offer will be decided on by the CMA by October 18; without its permission, the transaction cannot proceed internationally.

Microsoft is hoping that the combination would increase interest in its Xbox gaming system and its gaming subscription service.
