The Indian women’s cricket team showcased their sheer dominance as they secured a resounding 8-wicket victory against Bangladesh, earning their well-deserved spot in the final of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The encounter was nothing short of a masterclass in both batting and bowling from the Indian side. One of the standout performers for India was Jemimah Rodrigues, who dazzled with her fearless approach at the crease.
Rodrigues displayed her sublime skills, scoring a brisk 20 runs from just 15 deliveries, playing a pivotal role in steering India towards a swift victory. India’s run-chase was a swift one, as they reached the target of 52 runs set by Bangladesh in a mere 8.2 overs, showcasing their dominance.
However, it was India’s formidable bowling unit that set the tone for their triumph. Pooja Vastrakar, the right-arm pacer, emerged as the spearhead of the attack. Her remarkable performance was instrumental in restricting Bangladesh to a paltry total of 51 runs.
Vastrakar wasted no time, making early breakthroughs by dismissing Shathi Rani and Shamima Sultana, ensuring they couldn’t pose any significant threat.
Her first wicket was a testament to her skill and precision, as a perfectly executed swinging delivery induced an edge from Shathi Rani, caught by keeper Richa Ghosh behind the stumps.
Vastrakar’s stunning spell culminated in career-best figures of 4 wickets for just 17 runs, leaving Bangladesh reeling.
The opening duo of Vastrakar and Titas Sadhu combined to strangle the Bangladesh batting line-up, leaving them gasping for air with a barrage of dot balls totalling 18 in number.
The spinners also played their part contributing to the suffocating pressure applied to Bangladesh’s batting.
The Bangladesh team found themselves capitulating against the relentless Indian bowling attack, recording their lowest-ever total against India in the T20 format. They were bundled out in a mere 17.2 overs, with only Nigar Sultana managing to cross into double figures.
While the Indian run-chase had a few hiccups, with skipper Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma losing their wickets early, it was Jemimah Rodrigues who truly shone, guiding India to a commanding victory.
With this triumph, India has booked their place in the final of the 2023 Asian Games, where they await their yet-to-be-determined opponents.
