The harrowing run of Manchester United continues. The 13-time Premier League winners have gotten off to their worst possible start in a season as they languish at the bottom of their UEFA Champions League table and at the 10th position in the Premier League.
Coming on the back of a disappointing 0-1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace, Erik Ten Hag has been receiving a lot of flak and pressure. Now, a 2-3 loss at the hands of Turkish club Galatasaray has surmounted the problems on the Dutch football manager.
Despite Rasmus Hojlund’s brilliance in this game where he netted 2 goals and put The Red Devils ahead on 2 occasions, United couldn’t capitalise on the leads. One of the growing problems of Manchester United has been their long-standing list of injuries to defenders.
The likes of Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have been injured for a considerable period of time and Sofyan Amrabat couldn’t convert his chances and opportunities.
For Galatasaray, Wilfried Zaha, Muhammed Kerem and Mauro Icardi had netted the goals and had sent a big knife through the chest of die-hard Manchester United fans.
A golden opportunity for Marcus Rashford in the second-half was squandered by the English forward. He was one-on-one with the Galatasaray keeper but gave the pass to Bruno Fernandes, who was surrounded by the opposition defenders and the ball was pushed towards a corner.
Casemiro, who is Manchester United’s most important playmaker at the moment and also their leading goal-scorer in this season with 4 goals, fouled Dries Mertens inside the penalty box and was flashed a red card.
In fact, the Brazilian midfielder had no chance but to save Andre Onana’s big blunder of passing it straight to the opposition. He will now be missing United’s next UEFA Champions League clash versus FC Copenhagen.
Even though Mauro Icardi of Galatasaray missed the penalty, he redeemed himself by playing a perfect chip shot over Andre Onana in the 81st minute of the game. It was the final nail in the coffin for Erik Ten Hag and co. as they succumbed to a disappointing loss at home.
Despite the strong presence of Manchester United fans who kept singing chants to boost up the morale of the home side, it wasn’t their night.
Manchester United next lock horns with Brighton
