ICC ODI World Cup 2023: 3 Talking Points Of ENG vs BAN

Date:

England registered their first victory of the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023, after a comprehensive 137-run victory against Bangladesh. After their disappointing 9-wicket loss against New Zealand in the first game, the Three Lions have staged a fabulous comeback in this marquee event.

Batting first, Jos Buttler and co., put on a mammoth total of 364 runs on the board. This score was enough to send shivers down the spines of the opposition players and it affected the Bangladeshi team, psychologically.

Despite winning the first game of their campaign against a comparatively weaker side like Afghanistan, we expected Bangladesh to give a fight in this match. But they were completely rolled over by the English players.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of the ENG vs BAN game in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023:

1. Dawid Malan’s exceptional knock

A knock of the ages, Dawid Malan’s 140-run knock was a class act. After a failure in the 1st game versus New Zealand, Malan staged a fantastic comeback and scored a lot of runs. Malan’s return to form would be a happy sign for the England team, as he is an impactful opener.

The southpaw looked in good touch and scored 16 fours and 5 sixes in this match. Malan’s innings had a strike-rate of 130.84 and was a personification of class and composure.

2. Reece Topley’s breathtaking spell

Coming in place of Moeen Ai, Reece Topley broke the shackles of the Bangladeshi side. He bagged 4 wickets in this game and was quite economical as well. Topley’s figures of 4/43 in 10 overs were quite special.

In pitches where there is more red soil than black soil, we could see Reece Topley play a significant role in the England cricket team. His wickets in this game were Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan.

3. Litton Das’s well-composed knock went in vain

One of the top performers of Bangladesh in this game was Litton Das. The stylish and flamboyant opener scored 76 runs in 66 balls and his knock was peppered with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Despite Das’s brilliance, Bangladesh ended up being on the losing side. He failed to receive adequate amount of support from the other end and this will be a concern for the Bangla Tigers, going forward.

Mushfiqur Rahim was the only other player who notched up a fifty for Bangladesh in this match.
