Virat Kohli Notches 49th ODI Century, Equals Sachin Tendulkar’s Record

Date:

Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli made history on his 35th birthday by equalling the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI centuries.

The milestone came during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match against South Africa at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens.

Kohli’s 49th ODI century was a remarkable feat, matching the record set by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the same number of centuries in 463 ODIs.

Kohli achieved this historic milestone in the 49th over of India’s innings with a single run off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling.

It’s worth noting that Kohli had come close to this record twice in the ongoing tournament, with scores of 97 and 88 against New Zealand and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Nevertheless, the milestone finally arrived, solidifying his status as one of the greatest ODI batsmen in the history of the game.

Adding a touch of nostalgia to the achievement, it’s worth mentioning that Kohli scored his first ODI century against Sri Lanka at the very same Eden Gardens back in 2009.

Additionally, he notched his 50th international century during a Test match against Sri Lanka on the same ground. Whenever someone opens the record book of Kohli, Eden Gardens has its prominence.

Virat Kohli’s incredible career continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of cricket, and his latest record places him in the elite company of legends.
