I-League: Mohammedan SC Sack Kibu, Appoint Mehrajuddin Wadoo As New Manager

In just about 2 months, I-League team Mohammedan SC sacked their Head Coach Kibu. After a string of poor performances and losses, Kibu has faced the axe.

Replacing Andrey Chernyshov, Kibu Vicuna was roped in as the coach of Mohammedan SC in December 2022. The 51-year-old Spanish manager didn’t get the backing of the management and the club.

Previous teams managed

Kibu has previously managed the Indian Super League (ISL) club Kerala Blasters FC from 2020-21. He has been the coach of Mohun Bagan from 2019-2020.

Some of the other clubs which the 51-year-old manager has coached are the newly-formed Calcutta-based football club, Diamond Harbour, LKS Lodz, FK Trakai, and Wisla Plock.

Mohammedan SC appoints Mehrajuddin Wadoo as the new manager

Mohammedan SC wasted absolutely no time in signing Mehrajuddin Wadoo as the new manager of the club. The former Indian footballing legend has played 32 matches for India and has netted 2 goals.

The former defender also played for ISL clubs such as Chennaiyin FC, Mumbai City FC, and the now-defunct club Pune City FC.

Some of the other clubs which the new Mohammedan SC manager has played for are Mohun Bagan, Salgaocar SC, Mohammedan SC, and Sporting Goa.

He played for Mohammedan SC in 13 games between 2013 and 2014.

Mehrajuddin Wadoo started his managerial career as the academy coach of Pune City FC followed by the assistant coach of Hyderabad FC.

He has also coached Sudeva Delhi, and Real Kashmir and will now be donning the hat of the manager of Calcutta giants, Mohammedan SC.

Mohammedan SC is 9th in the I-league 2022-23 points table

Mohammedan is enduring a torrid season in the I-League and is presently languishing in the 9th position in the table. They have mustered just 5 wins and 5 draws and have been on the losing side on 8 occasions.

They next lock horns with Sreenidi Deccan on 23rd February 2023 at 4:30 PM (IST). It will be taking place at Kishore Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata.
