Wiaan Mulder etched his name in the history books after his terrific ton against Zimbabwe in the 2nd Test match between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Mulder scored 367* runs and surprisingly declared his team’s innings, who were batting on 626/5.

He therefore underlined that the team was more important to him than personal achievements. Mulder was just 33 runs shy of the highest-ever Test score – 400* by Brian Lara.

Batting first, South Africa posted an insurmountable total of 626/5d and put Zimbabwe in a spot of bother in the entire Test match.

Wiaan Mulder shattered several records

The 27-year-old interim captain of South Africa shattered several records en-route his historic knock. He became the 2nd South African after Hashim Amla to score a triple century in Tests.

He also surpassed Amla’s score of 311 runs to hold the highest individual score by a South African in Tests.

Mulder also became the first captain to score a triple century on his captaincy debut and this is certainly a feat he will cherish for a long time.
On Day 1, Mulder had already eclipsed Graham Dowling of New Zealand, who had scored 239 in his first innings as skipper against India in Christchurch in 1969, to make the highest score ever by a man making his Test captaincy debut.

Wiaan Mulder also became the youngest Test captain to score a triple century in this format, aged 27 years and 138 days.

Zimbabwe batting presently on 38/3

The hosts’ abysmal display with the bat continues as they presently struggling at 38/3 after 13 overs, at the time of writing this article. Codi Yusuf has bagged 2 wickets and Corbin Bosch has taken 1 wicket for South Africa.

Wesley Madhevere and Craig Ervine are presently batting on 13* and 12* runs respectively for Zimbabwe.
