Indian U-19 World Cup winning captain of 2022, Yash Dhull is one of the most experienced cricketers in the present set-up of the Indian cricket team. The young batter from Delhi powered India to their 5th U-19 World Cup title.
In the semi-finals of the tournament in the West Indies, Yash Dhull scored a fabulous knock of 110 runs that was filled with class and flamboyance. Yash Dhull also recently finished India’s premier T20 domestic tournament as the highest run-getter.
Ahead of India’s T20I squad selection for the Sri Lanka T20I series, some reports have emerged that the young 20-year-old batter might be given a spot in the T20I squad of India.
In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Yash Dhull should be a part of India’s squad in the T20I series against Sri Lanka:
1. Yash Dhull was the highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2022
The young batter from Delhi was in exceptional form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 and finished the tournament with the most number of runs. Dhull mustered 363 runs in 8 games and had a stupendous average of 72.60. He smashed 36 fours and 11 sixes in the tournament.
Yash Dhull’s blistering form in T20 cricket should be one of the primary reasons as to why he should be drafted into the Indian squad.
2. Has leadership abilities
Whenever a player has leadership abilities, he not only performs well but also motivates the other players to perform well. Yash Dhull guided India to its 5th U-19 World Cup Trophy 2022 and is also leading the Delhi Ranji team in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 tournament.
3. Senior players will be given a rest
One of the main reasons why we unearthed a gem like Virat Kohli at such a young stage was because he was fast-tracked into the main stage quite early on in his career. If Yash Dhull’s potential has to be fully utilized, then he should be playing international cricket when the stars are given rest.
As the big stars of Indian cricket will be given rest in this format so that they focus on the ODI and Test format, Yash Dhull could well make the cut of the Indian cricket team for the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
