After India’s historic Perth Test match victory, the action now shifts to the 2nd Test which starts from 6th December 2024. It is the famous Adelaide Oval where this game will be taking place in and India has had some historic Test matches over here.
Be it the famous Test victory in Adelaide in 2018 which announced the arrival of Cheteshwar Pujara in Australian soil where he scored 123 and 71 runs or the jaw-dropping comeback staged by India in the 2nd Test in 2003-24 where Rahul Dravid smashed 233 and 72* runs, India loves playing at this venue.
But the aberration that occurred in 36 all-out, the last time India played here in 2020, might be ringing in the minds of all Indian cricket team fans.
But India has a solid and a settled batting lineup and would be quite confident ahead of the 2nd Test at Adelaide Oval.
In this article, we will predict the possible playing XI of India in the 2nd Test at Adelaide Oval:
Openers: Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal
We believe that Rohit Sharma, who is coming back into the side after being on parental leave, will replace KL Rahul in the opening position. The latter might go down the order in order to accommodate the captain.
Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in his element in the 2nd innings at Perth and smashed a classy knock of 161 runs.
Top-Order: Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant
The top-order looks settled and balanced as Shubman Gill is likely to replace Devdutt Padikkal in the starting XI. Virat Kohli finally scored his 81st international century and has now jumped Sachin Tendulkar to have the most number of centuries in Tests in Australia, with the tally now going to 7.
Rishabh Pant is likely to occupy the number 5 position and he will be a key player to watch out for.
Middle-Order: KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar
India have a solid middle-order and we can expect KL Rahul to join it as Rohit Sharma is back up-top. Nitish Kumar Reddy had a solid outing with the bat and with the ball and he adds a lot of depth and flexibility to the Indian Test team in such conditions.
Washington Sundar was picked ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and this might be a selection headache for Gautam Gambhir and the rest of the think-tank of India.
Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Harshit Rana
Jasprit Bumrah played a match-winning spell in Perth and helped India win the 1st Test. Bumrah bagged 8 wickets in the game and deservedly bagged the player of the match award.
Mohammad Siraj is an experienced campaigner and Harshit Rana shone brightly in his debut game. He picked up 4 wickets in his debut game and would be super confident ahead of the 2nd Test. Rana also took 4 wickets in the first innings in the PM XI vs India practice match at Canberra.
