    Axar Patel vs Washington Sundar

The recent T20I series between India and Sri Lanka has reignited the debate over which all-rounder is better suited for India’s T20I squad: Axar Patel or Washington Sundar.

Both players have showcased their skills with the ball and bat, but their performances in the series have highlighted their strengths and weaknesses.

As the Indian management looks towards the best squad for the Indian team, the competition between these two players will be crucial in shaping the team’s strategy.

Axar Patel’s experience and consistency make him a preferred choice, while Washington Sundar’s ability to generate turns and control the game through his off-spin could also be valuable assets.

Axar Patel vs Washington Sundar: Bowling Comparison

In the bowling department, Axar Patel has established himself as a reliable option, particularly after Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is. His experience and ability to bowl in crucial moments make him a preferred choice.

Axar’s T20I bowling statistics reflect his consistency, with a total of 60 wickets in 60 matches at an average of 23.28 and an economy rate of 7.49.

Washington Sundar, while having fewer opportunities, has also made a mark with his bowling. He has taken 42 wickets in 47 T20I matches with an average of 25.26 and a slightly better economy rate of 7.28. His ability to generate turn and control the game through his off-spin has been pivotal, especially in the recent series against Zimbabwe, where he was one of the leading wicket-takers.

Batting-wise, Axar Patel has been more prolific, with a T20I average of 20.13 and a strike rate of 144.23 over 61 matches.

His ability to contribute valuable runs lower down the order has been crucial for India, often stabilising the innings when needed. He has also shown the capability to hit boundaries, evidenced by his 32 fours and 23 sixes in T20Is.

Washington Sundar’s batting, however, has been inconsistent. With an average of 12.27 in T20Is, he has struggled to find his rhythm, although he did manage to score a crucial 25 runs in the recent match against Sri Lanka.

His potential is evident, but he needs to convert his starts into bigger scores more consistently to solidify his place in the team.
