BCCI Honors MS Dhoni’s Legacy, Set To Retire Legendary No. 7 Jersey

Date:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to retire fans’ favourite MS Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey. The jersey no. 7 has its craze in social media due to the influence of MS Dhoni.

The decision to retire Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey highlights the big influence Dhoni has had on Indian cricket and confirms his status as one of the game’s all-time great captains.

The jersey no. 7 shows MS Dhoni’s leadership, poise, and unparalleled achievement in cricket, and it came to symbolise his remarkable career.

The Indian cricket team achieved incredible accomplishments while MS Dhoni was captain, including winning the ICC World Cup in 2011 and the historic ICC T20 World Cup in 2007.

This is not the first time, BCCI has retired jersey numbers.  The retirement of Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey follows in the footsteps of another cricketing icon, Sachin Tendulkar, whose No. 10 jersey was previously retired by the BCCI.

This gesture honours the two masters who, in their times, not only revolutionised Indian cricket but also rose to become international icons of brilliance.

BCCI has informed current Indian players that they are prohibited from wearing the No. 7 jersey during international matches.

The No. 7 jersey will now hang on the walls of cricket history, a symbol of Dhoni’s unparalleled achievements in the sport, just as Sachin’s No. 10 jersey is still unavailable.

As per media reports, a senior BCCI official confirmed that, at present, around 60 numbers are designated for regular and potential players in the Indian cricket team.

The decision to retain a player’s number even during periods of absence aims to limit the pool of available numbers for new entrants to around 30, ensuring a sense of continuity within the team.

The retirement of MS Dhoni’s No. 7 jersey is not merely a symbolic act; it is a statement preserving a legacy that transcends statistics.

Dhoni’s impact on Indian cricket extends beyond the boundaries, and the retirement of his jersey immortalizes the man who led with distinction, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s cricketing ethos.
