The decision of whether to send the Pakistan team to the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India next year, lies with the government, according to Najam Sethi, the new head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Prior to Sethi, Pakistan’s president Ramiz Raja had said that if India did not visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup, his nation may think about withdrawing from the World Cup.
When challenged about this threat during a news conference, Najam Sethi responded, “If the government says don’t travel to India, we will not go.” It is obvious that decisions regarding Pakistan-India cricket relations are always made at the government level.
The Asia Cup 2023, which will be held in Pakistan, will be moved to a neutral venue, according to ACC president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who made the announcement in October. Ramiz Raja was incensed by this announcement, and the PCB responded by sending the ACC a harsh letter.
Decisions are only taken at the government level
“If the government says don’t go to India, we will not go. Where Pakistan and India’s cricket relations are concerned, let’s be clear. (The) decisions on whether to play or not play tour or not tour are always taken at the government level. These are decisions only taken at the government level; the PCB can only seek clarity,” Sethi told a press conference in Karachi.
Will be in touch with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC)
According to Najam Sethi, the PCB may only request clarification because such decisions are only made at the government level. Sethi promised to communicate with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on the possible Pakistani hosting of the upcoming Asia Cup. Najam Sethi said, “I will see what the situation is and then move forward. Any decision we take, we have to make sure we are not isolated.”
