ENG vs IND 2nd Test 3 Talking Points

India logged a historic 336-run victory against England at Edgbaston on 6th July 2025 and etched their names in the history books. Shubman Gill marshalled his troops from the front and registered a fabulous victory, to bring the series on level grounds.

After England’s victory at Headingly, India have registered a comeback for the ages and have their noses ahead in the ongoing series. The batting and the bowling department of India synced together and brought about a special performance for the team.

India also registered their first-ever victory at Edgbaston in 9 attempts in red-ball cricket. It is therefore a monumental victory for the visitors.

In this article, we take a look at the top 3 talking points of the 2nd Test between England and India:

    1. Shubman Gill’s wizardry

Shubman Gill was a treat to watch in the 2nd Test match. He soaked in all the pressure and produced 2 special knocks in both the innings of the game. In the 1st innings, Gill brought about the highest-ever score by an Indian captain – 269 runs.

It was a knock filled with class and finesse. And he backed it up with a sublime ton in the 2nd innings. Gill’s consistency has shaped the narrative of the Indian cricket team in the ongoing series.

    2. Akash Deep’s resurgence

When Jasprit Bumrah was rested ahead of the 2nd Test match, there was a shadow of uncertainty looming over the Indian bowling department – especially the pacers. But Akash Deep put a lid on the mouths of all his naysayers – as he bagged 10 wickets in the game.

He was one of the key reasons why India defended the target set by them in the 4th innings. Notably, Akash Deep was breathing fire in the 4th innings and finished with figures of 6/99 in the Test match.

    3. Jamie Smith’s lone battle

Jamie Smith waged a lone battle in both the innings of the 2nd Test match. While he smashed a knock of 184* runs in the 1st innings, he carried from where he left off, and scored 88 runs in the 2nd innings.

He would be devastated with this performance from his bowlers. This is because, England lost the entire match because of their insipid bowling.
