Pakistan are presently on a tour of Ireland and England. After winning the T20I series 2-1, the action shifted towards the England series. The 1st T20I was washed out without a ball being bowled due to incessant rainfall.
Hasan Ali had replaced Haris Rauf as the latter was suffering from a groin injury since February 2024. Now as Rauf has regained fitness and has been added to the squad, Hasan Ali has been released from the squad as he has commitments to fulfil in County Cricket for Warwickshire.
Notably, Ali was picked as a replacement player of Rauf and this decision indicates that he is not in the scheme of things of Pakistan for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Pakistan had named an 18-member squad for these two bilateral series and will have to trim it down to 15 members.
In the 3rd and final T20I at Clontarf, Hasan Ali had leaked a lot of runs versus Ireland. In 3 overs, he conceded 42 runs and lacked rhythm and coordination. This could possibly be another reason as to why Pakistan have decided to release him.
Pakistan are yet to announce their provisional T20 squad for the upcoming marquee event in USA and West Indies. They are expected to announce it this week and the squad will also consist of two travelling reserves.
Babar Azam will be the captain of the Pakistani T20I squad after he replaced pacer Shaheen Afridi as the captain after the completion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.
