After a sensational season of English T20 Blast 2023, finally have come to an end. Somerset have defeated Essex in the finals by 14 runs and have won the title after a wait of 18 years.
The long wait for glory and smiles on the face of their fans had finally ended. History beckoned at Edgbaston as Somerset clinched off the silverware and silenced all their haters.
It was a long day for both the teams and the wait kept getting longer as rain persisted throughout the day, which had 3 matches.
Notably, both the semi-finals and the finals took place on the same day. Even though the players were pretty tired, they had to play the finals. Eventually, Somerset held their nerves and went on to defeat their rivals at Edgbaston.
In the 1st semi-finals, Essex defeated defending champions Hampshire. They had a reduced target of 115 in 12 overs as passing showers had played spoilsport to the game. In the subsequent semi-finals, Somerset got the better off Surrey by 24 runs.
Cut to the finals and Somerset were the side that ended with the silverware. Matt Henry shone with the white-cherry and triggered a batting failure for Essex.
Even though Daniel Sams was looking explosive as was pitted towards powered Essex to their 2nd title, his heroics fell short. A gutsy effort from the bowlers of Somerset made sure that they make the crowd at Edgbaston, quite happy and cheerful.
This was Somerset’s 2nd title as they had first had won the title way back in 2005. Somerset had performed exceedingly well in the group-stage encounters and had topped the table of the South Group.
