    Rohit Sharma

One of the most dynamic players of our current generation, Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team. He will be the pivot around which the whole Indian team will run in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Having taken over the reigns of captaincy in all the formats after Virat Kohli called it quits from captaincy in 2021/22, Rohit Sharma has been the all-format skipper of India since then.

Rohit Sharma’s exploits with the bat need no introduction at all as he is the second-highest run-getter of India in the ODI format after Virat Kohli, among the current crop of players.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Rohit Sharma can have a good tournament in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023:

    1. Rohit Sharma is a proven performer in this format

Having played more than 245 ODI matches, Rohit Sharma knows this format, in and out. He has been an absolute match-winner of Team India in this format and has been scoring well at the top for the team.

In 246 matches so far, Sharma has amassed 9922 runs and is just nearing the elusive 10,000 run mark. It is highly likely that the Indian cricket team skipper will be reaching this mark in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 itself.

    2. Rohit Sharma is in good form

The 36-year-old cricketer is in good form and this can be translated into a good sojourn in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In the match versus Nepal in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma played exceedingly well and mustered 74* runs in 59 balls.

Sharma deservedly won the player of the match for his knock against Nepal. In the recently-concluded Test series between India and West Indies in July 2023, Rohit Sharma had finished as the 2nd-highest run-scorer of India with 240 runs. He had an outstanding average of 80.00.

    3. Rohit Sharma the captain is a class act!

Arguably one of the greatest ever white-ball skippers, Rohit Sharma already is the joint most-successful Indian Premier League (IPL) captain. He has won 5 IPL titles while leading Mumbai Indians (MI) and will be looking to continue his impressive form in the international stage.

In 2018, Rohit Sharma had won the Asia Cup 2023 as captain and he would be looking to replicate the same with the team in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
