The Indian Cricket Team is presently batting on 264/4 at Old Trafford, Manchester, after the completion of Day 1. Despite losing a few wickets, India have managed to hold things strong from one end.

Former Indian cricketer and now-turned cricket pundit, Sanjay Manjrekar, lavished praise on KL Rahul for his approach towards playing the English seamers. He lauded his consistency and underlined that India were blessed to have him.

“KL Rahul has the right kind of approach to playing shots. Now, they say in England, when the ball is pitched up, you play the drive to get two runs, not a boundary. And that’s exactly what he did with the two cover drives he played. This is a guy who hasn’t put a foot wrong in the series and continues to perform. So India is blessed with a KL Rahul who’s finally found consistency in the way he’s batted,” said Sanjay Manjrekar in a conversation with JioHotstar.

“It’s not a quick outfield, so a lot of the shots he played went for two runs. But yes, this is exactly what we expect from KL Rahul. We also see a lot of young batters now getting right up there with the legends of the past — and doing it consistently. One reason is they’re performing well. The other is India now plays a lot of Test matches in places like England, Australia, and South Africa — almost every two years,” Manjrekar added.

Rishabh Pant has suffered a serious injury on Day 1

While Rishabh Pant was batting on 37 on Day 1, he attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, and the ball crashed on to his toe. He immediately hobbled on one leg and was seen in excruciating pain.

He had to be stretchered off and he became retired hurt. While we haven’t received an official statement regarding Rishabh Pant’s injury so far, we wish him a speedy recovery.

During his innings at Manchester on Day 1, Rishabh Pant became the 1st visiting wicketkeeper batter to score more than 1000 runs in Test Cricket. Pant is an indispensable part of the Indian Cricket Team and skipper Shubman Gill and co. would be praying for his recovery.
