Former Indian swashbuckling wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik has opened up about a chat which we had with former Indian legendary captain Virat Kohli. Dinesh Karthik said in a podcast that he had this conversation with Kohli ahead of the gruelling 5-match Test series between India and England.

Karthik also said that the statement reminds him of Shubman Gill and how the youngster has been replicating Kohli’s magic and following his footsteps.

“Athers, you spoke about Virat Kohli. I met him a few days ago, and this talk about captaincy came up. He said people think’, I’m a great Test cricketer. I enjoyed my Test batting, which I did, but the fact is that getting my captaincy was the best thing to happen in my life,” said Dinesh Karthik.

“Why I am saying this is that the same line was used by Shubman Gill. He said, I used to bat differently. But now, after I’ve got captaincy, I almost, when I’m batting, think this is what my team requires – rather than me wanting to do something individually as a batter – which I thought, wow,” he added.

Shubman Gill: The Wonder Boy Trained by Virat Kohli

Shubman Gill has been following Virat Kohli’s steps and has been shattering a gamut of records. He already became the first captain to score a 200 and a 100 in the same Test match and has already plundered 585 runs in 2 Tests and has been a beacon of light in the Indian cricket team.

Gill has been marshalling India’s troops extremely well and is an embodiment of the never-say-die attitude.

After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma called it quits from international cricket, there were questions asked about India’s capabilities in the longest format of the game.

But under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir and leadership of Shubman Gill, the Indian cricket team is moving forward in the right direction.

One of the key reasons why India has been performing well in a tough series like this is because the Indian team isn’t overtly dependent on a single person.

Every cricketer has been raising their hands up and has been taking up ownership of the game.
