In the wake of a lacklustre performance in IPL 2023, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has undergone a major change in its coaching staff. RCB has decided not to renew the contracts of Director of cricket operations, Mike Hesson, and head coach, Sanjay Bangar.

Following their departure, RCB has announced the appointment of Andy Flower as their new head coach.

Andy Flower brings a wealth of coaching experience to the table, having served as the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants for the last two IPL seasons. However, he was recently replaced by Justin Langer in July, which made him available for the RCB’s head coach role.

Hesson joined RCB in August 2019 as part of a comprehensive coaching staff revamp after the team’s last-place finish in the preceding season. Under his tenure, RCB’s performance saw some improvement, finishing fourth in the league in 2020, third in 2021, and fourth again in the IPL 2022 league stage. However, the team’s quest for an IPL trophy remained elusive.

Similarly, Sanjay Bangar took over as the head coach ahead of the 2022 edition, succeeding Simon Katich. While RCB managed to reach the playoffs during his stint, the 2023 season was challenging, culminating in a sixth-place finish among ten teams.

Fans are eager to see how Flower’s coaching will influence the team’s performance and if RCB can finally break their trophy drought in the future IPL campaigns.
