IPL Auction 2023: Star Sports Records 25% Boost In Cumulative Reach After Auction

Last month, the IPL mini-auction took place. There were competitive bids for players from all over the world at the auction. All previous bid records were broken at this IPL 2023 mini-auction. This year’s auction included players at prices never previously seen. Aside from this, the auction this year shattered a lot of other significant records. Even those who tuned in to watch the auction live on television hit a major record.

Star Sports, India’s leading sports broadcaster, has achieved a 25% increase in cumulative reach after the auction of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

IPL 2023 auction with many records 

When the IPL 2023 player auction was broadcast live on Star Sports, the league’s official television broadcaster, on December 23, it attracted 50.6 million viewers, a remarkable 25% increase in cumulative reach (live, cricket, and build-up programming included).

There were 40.6 million viewers for the IPL 2021 mini-auction. In addition, the overall time spent watching the IPL 2023 player auction increased by 10% to 1.59 billion minutes from the IPL 2021 mini auction’s 1.44 billion minutes.

IPL 2023 auction was broadcasted in different languages 

“This year’s auction panelists on Star Sports were handpicked to provide the best insights to our viewers. To cater to the needs of our diverse audience, we also provided a comprehensive broadcast of the auction in five different languages – English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu & Kannada.”

“Furthermore, our social campaign, #AuctionStar trended as high as #3 on Twitter and was in the Top 10 for the duration of the auction,” said a Star Sports spokesperson in an official statement.

IPL 2023 auction top buys

Sam Curran, a left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder from England, was purchased by Punjab Kings, his first IPL squad, for INR 18.50 crore during the player auction for the IPL 2023.

The five-time champion Mumbai Indians signed fast-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green for INR 17.5 crore, while England Test skipper Ben Stokes signed with the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings for INR 16.25 crore.

For INR 13.25 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired Harry Brook, and Lucknow Super Giants acquired West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran for INR 16 crore.
