Gautam Gambhir was recently announced as the Head Coach of the Indian cricket team across and formats and social media went into a frenzy. Several congratulatory messages started pouring in from different quarters in the cricketing fraternity and everyone sent in their positive wishes.
Another towering cricketing personality who joined in this list is former legendary South African all-rounder, Jacques Kallis. Kallis has played a lot of Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons under the astute captaincy of Gautam Gambhir and has known him from close quarters.
From 2011-2014, Jacques Kallis was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders and helped the Knights win 2 IPL titles.
Reacting to Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as the Head Coach, Jacques Kallis said that Gautam will be “bringing in fire” to the team.
“It’s great to see Gautam getting into the coaching side of things. He’s got a really good cricket brain. He’ll bring some fire and loves playing the game aggressively. I think he’ll bring that added touch, and the guys will certainly learn a lot from him. He’s got a lot to add and will bring significant value to that Indian side. I wish him all the best—not too much against us, but I’m sure he’ll do a fantastic job,” said Jacques Kallis to Star Sports.
India to kick-start Gambhir era with white-ball series vs Sri Lanka
Post the Zimbabwe tour, the action around the Indian cricket team will be shifting to the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka. India will be playing 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is versus Sri Lanka and the series is slated to kickstart from 28th July 2024.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to be rested for this series and reports have emerged that Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul will be leading the T20I and ODI series respectively.
Under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had lifted their 3rd IPL title in IPL 2024.
