During the Legends League Cricket Eliminator match between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants, former Indian cricket teammates S Sreesanth and Gautam Gambhir found themselves at the center of a heated exchange.
The LLC 2023 clash, held at a packed stadium in Surat, not only showcased thrilling on-field cricket but also brought forth a tense feud between two seasoned players who once stood side by side in the Indian national team.
Sreesanth Vs Gautam Gambhir: What was the controversy?
The incident happened during the second innings when Gautam Gambhir, leading the India Capitals, took on Sreesanth’s bowling assault. Gambhir’s aggressive play, which included scoring boundaries off Sreesanth’s deliveries.
As the tension mounted, Sreesanth could be seen expressing his frustration with words directed at Gambhir, who, in turn, responded with a stern glare.
A spectator in the stands captured a video that revealed another verbal exchange between the two players during the interval after a wicket fell. The video footage circulated on social media, adding fuel to the already intense situation.
The aftermath of the match took a surprising turn when Sreesanth took to Instagram to share his discontent with Gautam Gambhir’s behavior.
Gambhir used inappropriate and rude language
In a video posted on his account, Sreesanth alleged that Gambhir used inappropriate and rude language without any provocation. He expressed his disappointment with Gambhir’s lack of respect for senior players, citing examples like Virender Sehwag.
“I am not at fault here. What Mr. Gauti has done, sooner or later all of you will get to know. The words which he used and the things he said on a cricket field, live, is not acceptable,” Sreesanth stated in the Instagram video.
The current argument between former India players Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth worsened on Thursday when the former called the batsman “an arrogant and utterly classless individual” in a comment on the latter’s Instagram post.
What Sreesanth commentted on Gambhir post?
Earlier in the evening, Gambhir shared a photo of himself donning the Indian cricket jersey, accompanied by a cryptic caption, “Smile when the world is all about attention!”
Under the post, Sreesanth commented, “You have exceeded the boundaries of a sportsman and a brother, and above all, you represent the people. Yet, you continue to engage in conflicts with every cricketer. What is the matter with you? All I did was smile and observe, and you labeled me a fixer? Seriously? Are you above the Supreme Court? You have no authority to speak in such a manner and say whatever you please. You even verbally abused the umpires, and yet you speak of smiling? You are an arrogant and utterly classless individual who lacks any form of respect for those who supported you.”
“Until yesterday, I always held respect for you and your family. However, you used the derogatory term “fixer” not just once, but seven or eight times. You even resorted to using the F-word towards the umpires and myself, persistently trying to provoke me. Anyone who has experienced what I have endured would never forgive you. Deep down, you know that what you said and did was wrong. I’m sure even God wont forgive you. You didn’t even come to the field after that. Come on, God is watching everything,” the 40-year-old said.
What Gambhir told Sreesanth?
Sreesanth revealed what Gambhir said to him during their heated disagreement during the match on Thursday morning in an emotional video that he uploaded on his Instagram feed.
“Fixer, fixer, you’re a fixer… you f**k off, fixer. He kept saying that,” revealed Sreesanth in an Instagram live video on his handle. “He kept on calling me that, on live television on the centre of the wicket. This is the language he used on live TV. He also told the same thing in front of umpires as they tried to control him.”
He added, “I did not say a single bad word or an abusive word at him. I only kept saying ‘what are you saying?’ Then I laughed in a sarcastic way.”
