The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Cricket Stadium, also known as the Mullapur Stadium, is a cricket stadium located in Tira, Punjab. It is situated in a village called Mullanpur near Mohali.
Recently, this stadium has been in the headlines as the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Punjab Kings, will be having their new base from IPL 2024 at Mullanpur Stadium.
Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Secretary, Dilsher Khanna, has recently revealed to the media that the Mullanpur Stadium is presently under check by the BCCI officials and it might be Punjab Kings’ home ground for this upcoming Indian Premier League stadium.
The state cricket board had also recently unveiled the stadium on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Mullanpur Stadium has 2 gigantic dressing rooms, which roughly spans to about 3000 square feet. There are also prime seats which are constructed inside the stadium, which is right above the dugout of the players.
Approximately 30,000 people can be seated in this stadium and we can expect an absolute electrifying atmosphere in this stadium of Punjab. Parking facilities can take in 1800 cars for the visitors and guests.
The dressing room also has extraordinary facilities in the form of buffet area, sauna bath, massage area and shower facilities.
Mullanpur Stadium is named after a late Patiala
This beautiful stadium is named after late Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, who had played 1 Test match for India in the year, 1934. He was the father of the CM of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh.
There were reports of an international T20I between India and Afghanistan to be held here, but it didn’t materialise. It hasn’t yet held any international game but has hosted several domestic matches in India.
Punjab Kings is presently having a pre-tournament camp at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Shikhar Dhawan, who is the captain of this franchise, is also in attendance.
