Rohit Sharma is one of the finest players across all the formats India has ever produced and is presently the captain of the Indian cricket team across 2 formats- ODI cricket and Test cricket. Notably, Sharma had hung up his boots from T20I cricket following India’s triumphant ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in USA & West Indies.

As the buildup to the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 begins, a lot of eyeballs will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli- the two pillars of the Indian cricket team. Rohit Sharma will be one of the key players to watch out for in the ranks of the Indian team and he will be responsible for giving fiery starts to the team upfront.

Sharma’s counter-attacking strategy has always helped India master the foreign conditions and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir will be expecting the same from him in this tour as well.

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has opened up about bowling to Rohit Sharma and has lavished truckloads of praise to him.

“I remember one time India came out, he battled at 5 or 6 and then last time he opened. He’s faced the new ball a lot. I feel like he plays the quicks unbelievably well. The bounce doesn’t seem to worry him, the movement doesn’t. He’s got all the time in the world. So, I find him quite tough to bowl to,” said Hazlewood in a conversation with Star Sports.

The India tour of Australia begins from 22nd November 2024

In what will be a litmus test for Gautam Gambhir and co., India will be looking to complete a hattrick of series victories in Australia. Notably, under the astute captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Indian team had won their first Test series Down Under in 2018-19.

It was followed by a remarkable series victory in 2020-21, where India’s main players were either injured or unavailable. These two monumental victories are still considered as one of the finest achievements of the Indian cricket team on overseas shores.

Rohit Sharma and co. will be playing 5 Test matches and this will decide whether Australia will be once again facing India in the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) in Lord’s in 2025.

Notably, India are presently right at the top of the points table of the WTC and are firm favourites of cementing a place in the finals.
