Andhra Pradesh registered a 36-run lead over Bengal in their opening game of Ranji Trophy 2023-24 and hence could get 3 points from this game in Group B. On the other hand, last year’s runners-up, Bengal got only 1 point.

Ricky Bhui was the architect of such a fabulous performance of Andhra Pradesh. He scored 175 runs in the 1st innings and powered his state to a commanding total of 445 runs, which was 36 runs more than Bengal’s 1st innings score of 409.

A much-needed and crucial partnership between Ricky Bhui and Shoaib Mohammed Khan flourished at the seventh wicket and helped Andhra Pradesh get a positive result in their opening game of this season in Ranji Trophy.

Ricky Bhui has been playing Ranji Trophy cricket for Andhra Pradesh since the age of 16 and has transitioned into a senior member in the side. Speaking to Sportstar post the game, Bhui spoke about his responsibilities in the side.

“At the same time, I look at the youngsters, like (Shaik) Rasheed coming in, CR Gnaneshwar, take that responsibility up ahead and make them also chase that mindset about what is required to excel at this level,” Bhui told Sportstar.

The 27-year-old cricketer also spoke about a unique practice in the Andhra Pradesh dressing room. He highlighted a unique and bizarre characteristic of skipper Hanuma Vihari, that has left several people shocked.

“Vihari, as a leader, he only said there are no personal milestones. Whatever it is, it’s a team milestone. When I reached my hundred, no one clapped. It was mandatory that whatever is there, we have to chase it down,” said Bhui.

“People usually get satisfied after reaching a milestone. No one should be satisfied until we are winning the game,” he added.

Lalith Mohan was the pick of the bowlers for Andhra Pradesh

With the red ball, Lalith Mohan starred for Andhra Pradesh. He bagged 4 wickets in the 1st innings and his scalps were Sudip Kumar Gharami, Anustup Majumdar, Manoj Tiwary and Pradipta Pramanik.

Shoaib Mohammed Khan, K.V. Sasikanth and Nitish Kumar Reddy bagged 2 wickets each. If they can continue this form then we can expect Andhra Pradesh to prove a strong case for their maiden bid for the Ranji Trophy title.
