Senior Indian Cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma suddenly went missing from the ICC ODI Player Rankings released by ICC on 20th August 2025. The entire cricketing fraternity went into shock as the two star cricketers’ names vanished from the top 100.
Recently, ICC had issued the Rankings and Team India Skipper Rohit Sharma and former Skipper Virat Kohli were ranked 2 and 4 respectively in the ICC ODI Player Rankings. Indian Test Captain Shubman Gill was ranked 1st.
ICC then issued a clarification that there was a technical glitch in the Rankings released on Wednesday. “There was an error in our rankings tables today, but it has been rectified,” said an ICC Official to Hindustan Times.
Rohit Sharma has played 8 ODIs in 2025 and Virat Kohli has played 7 ODIs. This sudden disappearance sparked retirement rumours from the duo as they had retired from Test Cricket in an unceremonious way.
On top of that, there are rumours floating about the potential retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli post the ODI Series in Australia in October 2025. This led to the die-hard fans of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, getting paranoid and worried.
The ICC ODI Player Rankings have updated the two legendary cricketers.
Shortly after the error was pointed out on social media, the technical team of ICC fixed the error. They brought back Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the Rankings. They retain the same rankings and have 736 and 756 points respectively.
Babar Azam occupies the 3rd position with 739 points respectively in the chart. Notably, Virat Kohli has had a career best ICC ODI Player Ranking of 909 and Rohit Sharma has had 882.
Both these cricketers are stalwarts of Indian Cricket and have carried the burden of Indian Cricket for a long time.
