West Indies have named their T20I squad for the series versus England and a lot of star cricketers have returned to the mix. The biggest name in the list is Andre Russell, who is staging a comeback into the West Indies national setup after a hiatus of 2 years.
Russell last represented West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and will be playing a pivotal role in the team in this edition. Matthew Forde has been given a debut outing in the T20I squad, after playing a good role in West Indies’ win in the 3rd ODI.
He delivered the goods with both the bat and with the ball and picked up 3 wickets, giving away 29 runs in 8 overs. Forde also scored 13* runs in 16 balls and can be an exciting prospect for West Indies in the future.
The likes of Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran have returned to the team after missing out on the 3-match ODI series at home. West Indies have a star-studded lineup and would be hoping to play well in this series.
“This will be the final home T20I series for the West Indies in 2023, as they prepare to be one of the two host teams for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June 2024,” said Desmond Hayes, who is the lead selector of West Indies.
“We have selected a squad that we think gives us the best chance of success in that tournament. We will continue to assess in the lead up to the competition,” he added.
Rovman Powell will be leading the squad and Shai Hope, who was the captain in the ODI series, has been named as the vice-captain. Notably, West Indies will be playing co-hosts alongside USA in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to be played in June 2024.
West Indies are 2-time winners of this competition and would be looking to extend their lead in the shortest format in international cricket.
