The much-awaited and high-voltage India vs Australia finals in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 is all set to kick-start from 7th June 2023. It will be taking place at The Oval and promises to be an absolute crackerjack of a contest.

India have won the last 4 Test series versus Australia and look quite formidable ahead of this high-voltage Test series. With some experienced folks in the team, India would be backing themselves to lift the coveted WTC title.

Australia on the other hand, need to punch above their weight in order to win the game. That being said, the Indian team still has a few glaring issues that they need to resolve. If they don’t iron out these chinks in their armour, then it will be tough for them to win the WTC finals.

In this article, we take a look at 3 weaknesses in the Indian cricket team that could hamper their chances in the finals:

    1. Inability to win ICC events

Despite being a powerhouse in international cricket, the Indian cricket team hasn’t been able to soak up the pressure at the highest stage. They haven’t won a single ICC event since the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and this can affect them psychologically.

India desperately needs to win this title, otherwise it could also mean that they are not confident ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Sometimes, this becomes a monkey on your back and can negatively affect you.

    2. Lack of stability in the middle-order

One of the glaring weaknesses in the Indian cricket team is their fragile middle-order. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and KS Bharat will have to score the bulk of the runs in the middle-order.

The likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are injured and they were mainstays in the middle-order of the Indian cricket team. If India have a collapse at the top, then the middle-order batters need to be equipped to handle a pressure and crunch situation.

    3. Tailenders aren’t quite effective with the bat

Despite some signs of improvement, India are lacking behind in the tailender’s batting area. Several other teams such as England and Australia have tailenders who can bat and getting them out has always been the Achilles Heels of India.

India would be hoping that their tailenders in the form of Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami score some valuable runs in the WTC finals.
