Today the table-toppers CSK, Chennai Super Kings, will take on the last team on the IPL Points table, SRH – Sunrisers Hyderabad, in the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League 2021 season. CSK are sitting pretty at the top after their one-sided win against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
But the Orange Army, Sunrisers Hyderabad – SRH will need to come good after losing the super over match against Delhi Capitals. Kane Williamson, who couldn’t get his side over the line last time, will want to do that job this time against a full-strength Chennai Super Kings team.
SRH – Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Orange army needs to bounce back after losing the match against Delhi Capitals in the super over. Kane Williamson controlled the chase beautifully and helped the Sunrisers to get closer to the total. But like always, the middle order didn’t respond well to the former SRH skipper, and they lost this match when u=it went to the super over.
The batting unit needs to step up for SRH. Warner has been in inconsistent form, and so as Jonny Bairstow, who got starts in every match, but he has failed to convert them. Kane Williamson is a calm and composed batsman in the middle order. But he needs solid support at the other end. It will be a good idea if Sunsrisers Hyderabad brings Manish Pandey at the number three position. SRH can drop Kedar Jadhav, who again failed to do well with the new franchise. Jadhav has repeated his poor performance, which he showed with CSK in the last season.
Instead of Virat Singh, SRH can also bring the young batsman who can bowl a bit. Adul Samad is also sitting out. He can bat after Williamson at the number four position. Samad can also give an extra bowling option, and he has been effective with the ball. He can be the partnership breaker that Sunrisers Hyderabad needs other than Rashid Khan.
The bowling was decent enough in the last game for the orange army. But they, Bhvneshwar Kumar, in their lineup. Bhuvi didn’t play the last game because he was injured. Sunrisers Hyderabad hopes that Bhuvi is fit to be the spearhead of the SRH’s bowling unit.
The orange army has already lost T Natarajan, and now they will not want to lose Bhuvneshwar Kumar. If they lose him, then that will make the bowing unit of Sunrisers Hyderabad weak and inexperienced. Khaleel Ahmed, Vijay Shankar, Basil Thampi Sandeep Sharma and Siddharth Kaul are inexperienced bowlers who will be an easy target for the opponents to thrash.
Rashid Khan has been under pressure already, and he is the one who has delivered the breakthroughs for the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. If SRH also includes Shahbaz Nadeem and Adul Samad, it might solve the bowling woes, giving some relief to Rashid Khan.
Chennai Super Kings – CSK
The yellow army is the number one team on the points table. They performed extremely well against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. Ravindra Jadeja’s lone all-around show lifted the game for them. His 37 runs in the last over changed the complexion of the game completely towards the CSK team.
CSK openers and middle-order need to bat with more intensity as they did against KKR a few days ago. Gaikwad and Du Plessis need to start the innings on a positive note on a track that hasn’t been used much recently.
The openers should be watchful for an over. If Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not playing, they can take on the other inexperienced bowlers because Bhuvi is a more skilful fast bowler on the SRH side. There is Rashid Khan as well, who can take the game away in just one over. the CSK captain needs to be careful as Dhoni doesn’t have a good record against this maestro spinner of Afghanistan.
Sir Jadeja, who turned the game on Sunday, is expected to the same today. He blasted the RCB bowlers, and he also picked up three main wickets. Deepak Chahar has been in decent form, and so as Lungi Ngidi, DJ Bravo and Sam Curran.
But Shardul Thakur needs to bowl well. He has been taking wickets, but he concedes more runs. In this match, Chennai Super Kings can go with KM Asif, the left-arm fast bowler from Kerala, rest Shardul Thakur for one game, and see how Asif performs.
