The Indian government banned BGMI in India at the end of July 2022 stating that the game was breaching user privacy and sharing valuable information with China. This ban has had a significant influence on BGMI and its fans. The game is still operating on its earlier version, but additional updates will not be added to the game. This is because its official marketplace listing on Apple and Google Play Store has been withdrawn.
This ban was established when an RTI request confirmed that BGMI is restricted in India. Krafton had said that they were working with the Indian government to bring the game back, and gamers expected BGMI to return by the end of the year. However, no statement has been made since that time.
The South Korean ambassador to India discussed Krafton’s ongoing attempts to resurrect BGMI. Mr. Chang Jae-bok noted that Tencent Games had previously worked with Battlegrounds Mobile India. The fundamental difficulty, he claims, is that the Indian government still believes the title is being handled by the Chinese corporation. As a result, Krafton is working hard to resolve the current challenges.
Krafton on BGMI return
Sean Hyunil Sohn, CEO of Krafton India, issued the initial statement regarding the ban. He began by expressing the company’s aim to aid in the expansion of esports and gaming in India. Sean emphasized that Krafton has always been focused on customer data security and privacy.
As per his statement, the corporation has followed the Indian government’s standards. He assured me that they would continue to do so in the future. During Krafton’s ‘2022 Q2 results conference call, Bae Dong-Geun, the company’s CFO, claimed that they were continually working to bring BGMI back to the country.
Dong-geun supported Sean’s statement. He added that Krafton has always adhered to the privacy safeguards established by the Government of India. Krafton also maintains “strict data security rules and monitoring,” according to him.
The most recent comment occurred in Krafton’s 2022 Q3 brochure, in which they indicated that they were still working hard to remedy the issue. They also added that they will still be working to revive themselves in the Indian gaming sector.
