FIFA World Cup 2022-winning Argentine forward Julian Alvarez has completed a £81.5m signing to Atletico Madrid from Manchester City. The sensational striker will be plying his trade for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid, which plays in the La Liga, will pay an initial sum of £64.4m to Alvarez with further £17.1m as potential add-ons as per several clauses mentioned in his professional contract.
Manchester City have won 6 out of the last 7 Premier League titles and will be missing the services of Alvarez, who formed a deadly striker in their matches. Even though the 24-year-old Argentine played in the shadows of star Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, he left an imprint at City.

Alvarez represented the highly-successfully English side in 54 matches across all competitions in the previous season as Haaland was suffering from several injuries. Haaland however once again bagged the Golden Boot award like he did during City’s Treble-Winning Campaign in 2022-23.
“I will give my all to be the best player I can be and help the team win games and push for Atlético. People have been trying to chat to me to welcome me here in Madrid. And I want to thank them. I can promise them I will always give my all on the pitch,” said Julian Alvarez.
Manchester City have gained a lot of profit from the departure and sale of players in this summer. Pep Guardiola and co. have generated £130m from player sales and includes Sergio Gomez, Liam Delap, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, Alex Robertson and Micah Hamilton.
“Today I say goodbye to this wonderful club with many emotions. They were two very special years. During this time, I grew and learned a lot as a player and as a person,” said Alvarez on social media while referring to his former club.
