Brazilian Legendary Footballer Pele Not Responding to Chemotherapy; Moved to Palliative Care

Brazilian footballing legend Pele had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and was regularly coming to the hospital for treatment. As per a latest report in Folha de S. Paulo, Pele has stopped responding to chemotherapy. The stalwart from Brazil has now been moved to an end-of-life care facility in the hospital.

There have been a few reports floating in the report that Pele’s health has deteriorated and that he was not responding to the antibiotic treatment which was being meted out to him. In 2021, Pele had a tumour removed from his colon. He was also diagnosed with an infection in his lungs.

Several footballers including Kylian Mbappe posted messages for the legend after they got to know that Pele had been moved to palliative care. Qatar made a tribute to Pele as well in one of their high-rises with the message “Get well soon”.

Pele had given an update about his health a few days back

Pele himself took to social media a couple of days back to re-assure everyone that he was fine and gave an update on his heath. “Friends, I am at the hospital making my monthly visit. It’s always nice to receive positive messages like this. Thanks to Qatar for this tribute, and to everyone who sends me good vibes!,” read Pele’s post.

Pele’s daughter on Tuesday had said that there was no ‘emergency’ with respect to her father’s health.

“Lots of alarm in the media today concerning my dad’s health. He is in the hospital regulating medication. There is no emergency or new dire prediction. I will be there for New Year’s and promise to post some pictures,” said Pele’s daughter.

The 82-year-old Brazilian footballing legend was a legend of the sport and netted 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil. He also played 636 matches for the football club Santos and scored 618 goals for them.

The talismanic striker from Brazil has won 3 FIFA World Cups for Brazil and has played in 4 for them.
