Inter Miami cruised to the semi-finals of the ongoing Leagues Cup 2025, even without the services of Lionel Messi. They defeated Tigres UANL 2-1 and booked their place in the semi-finals.
Lionel Messi was rested from the game after he picked up a ‘minor’ muscle injury. Javier Mascherano didn’t want to take a risk with the star striker and hence went ahead without him in the squad.
It was Luiz Suarez who hogged the limelight after he converted two penalties and helped Inter Miami bag the honours of this game.
Lionel Messi had injured himself in the game versus Necaxa on 2nd August 2025 and was taken off in the 11th minute. He missed the next two matches but returned to play on 16th August 2025 versus LA Galaxy.
Messi came on in the 2nd half and netted 1 goal and 1 assist during his time at the pitch. But he hasn’t recovered completely and hence the manager decided to take the safer bet.
“Leo didn’t train with the group; he trained separately. It was a bit like the same situation I described the other day after the game, when he felt uncomfortable during those 45 minutes he played. We’ll see during tomorrow’s training,” said Javier Mascherano on 19th August 2025.
Inter Miami cross swords with Orlando City in the Leagues Cup semi-finals
Inter Miami are pitted against Orlando City in the semi-finals of the ongoing competition. The game is scheduled to be played on 28th August 2025 at the Chase Stadium. It is slated to begin from 6:00 AM (IST).
Orlando City outfoxed Toluca in the penalties in the quarter finals of the Leagues Cup. It went right down to the wire and it was Orlando City who kept their calm and composure and recorded a famous win.
