FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023: Spain Etch Their Names In Gold After 1-0 Final Victory Versus England

Date:

Spain are the world champions! It was ecstasy, joy and jubilation for La Roja as they defeated England to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The Spaniards played exceedingly well in the marquee tournament and logged 18 goals, which is their highest ever in the World Cup.

Olga Carmona’s goal in the 29th minute from the left-wing helped La Roja get past the Lionesses. England’s wait for their inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup continues as they failed to cross the finishing line this time.

Notably, this was Spain’s first World Cup final as well. They were a dominant powerhouse in the tournament and their efforts paid rich dividends as they lifted the glorious title for the first ever time.

Spanish captain Carmona had also scored in the semi-finals versus Australia and has etched her name in gold!

In terms of possession, counter-attacking or applying pressure on the defensive departments of the opposition team, Spain excelled. And they have reaped benefits of their excellent performances.

Despite having their backs against the walls because of off-field turmoil, Spain defied all odds and emerged out victorious in this tournament.

The likes of Alba Maria, Aitana Bonmati and Jennifer Fuentes scored 3 goals each in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and played a crucial part in La Roja’s title triumph in this tournament.

As they re-write the history books, it is also noteworthy that Spain became the 2nd nation after Germany to win both the men’s and the women’s editions of the FIFA World Cup.

Germany’s women’s team have won the FIFA Women’s World Cup on 2 occasions- in 2003 and 2007.

With this game, the 9th edition of this marquee tournament comes to an end. Spain won their 1st title and the tournament was laced with several highs, lows, clangers and exciting moments that defined the legacy of this incredible sport.
